Rob Winstone One of the best contemporary electronic albums I’ve heard, colourful and full of emotion & life from start to finish. All the while being original and distinct.

Never Sleep Forever This is a masterpiece, you won't regret purchasing this album. Full of layers and layers of sonic empathy, beautifully crafted to make you feel a perplex amount of emotions from sadness, anger, and some type of self-forgivingness in between. Buy this album or feel nothing.

about

Éditions Appærent and Pierre Guerineau are proud to present L’eau par la soif, their shared debut record.

Named after historical cases of mass hallucinations in French villages, Feu St-Antoine’s music reflects the subjectivity of reality, both as a personal and socio-political construct.

From the cold vocoder of “The Appærence” to the phased, swirling rhythms of “Spazio Libero,” or the vast, sprawling synth epics “L’eau par la soif” and “Printemps,” this record is immaculately rendered at every level; suffused with thoughts half-remembered, emotions never felt, and languages unlearned.

Language plays a crucial role here. Monologues and snatched phrases are buried in these tracks; one can even detect the cry and speech of Alex Zhang Hungtai’s slabbed, event-horizon saxophone. “L’eau par la soif” traverses the space between what is known and unknown, what is felt and unfelt, what is true and what is merely fact.

We sincerely hope you enjoy. ❥

Pierre Guerineau is a composer and producer living in Montreal. Besides two critically acclaimed albums on DFA Records with his duo Essaie pas, he has produced music for over thirty releases on labels such as NON Worldwide, Ninja Tune and Cititrax/Minimal Wave; and collaborates regularly with artists such as Marie Davidson, Bernardino Femminielli, Jesse Osborne-Lanthier, Asaël Robitaille and Alex Zhang Hungtai.

“It’s hard for me to overstate my enthusiasm for the release of L’eau par la soif, as I was front row to watch the whole composition process of this wonderful album. Throughout the years, I stood by the artist, witnessing his evolution, from the first drafts of his songs to the outcome of a singular piece of work. It has been a long journey to the finalization of this album that has been several times delayed. Pierre never ceases to surprise me in his solo work as much as in his endeavour as a producer, especially in his role as co-producer on all of my personal albums. I strongly admire his sense of research, uncompromising rigour and his constant need to reinvent himself as a musician. Many times, I observed him discarding tracks and sketches of music that were sounding very good to my ears. I sometimes wondered, in misunderstanding, if it was the manifestation of a fear to commit. But now, as I listen to the final draft of several years of creation, I understand the integrity of his process and the result is all the more strong and compelling for it.”

—Marie Davidson

“The individuation process is a journey that will remain an eternal human endeavor. The form changes with the times, as the fire in which the saints were engulfed a millennia ago in their search for god, and perhaps most importantly, for forgiveness. A digital world resumes where our consciousness gets stretched, glitched, chopped, beaten, and driven repeatedly until it transmutes into something beyond our self-limitation. The inferno, purgatory, and paradise is the alchemical journey humans have trekked towards for all of eternity. May god bless those whose courage reigns supreme through the hell fires of fear, pain, and doubt. Know thyself. Nothing to excess. Surety brings ruin.”

— Alex Zhang Hungtai
